7 Elements of Graphics Design to consider in 2018

Trends are not anything new that people have discovered, chances are everything has already been done before, but they re-emerge every 20 to 30 years later into a modern contemporary style.

It’s an exciting time for graphic designs. The visual arts are being revitalized. Graphics Designing is about to get a lot more interesting as graphic design services companies continue to focus more on originality and the individuality of brands and their audiences. With so many old and new styles on the table, it will be a time of taking risks and breaking patterns in 2018, the year you release your creativity!

Some elements of graphic designing that we think you should consider for 2018 are:

1. Duotones

Duotones are usually created through a halftone printing process where one halftone is printed on top of another of a contrasting color, creating a two-toned image. This fundamental technique has found its way into digital media. Software these days has made it easy to develop duotones, and other variations like monotones, tritones, and quadtones. Designers are taking advantage of this technique as imagery created within a limited color palette that is delightfully complimentary to semi-flat design. With bold colors and beautiful application, duotones are sure to be one of the hottest trends of 2018.

2. Moody Tones

The 80/90’s are back. Along with that era comes a renewed interest in colors that weren't perceived as bright as the colors captured by devices back then were somewhat worn out and not as saturated. This phenomenon has inspired many designers' preference for moody color palettes to be used with all kinds of materials: screen, paper, fabric, among many others.

In color theory, the term value is used to express relative brightness or darkness. Moodier tones have a lower cost, making them appear darker. Similarly, there's another trait called Chroma that measures the quality of a color's intensity or purity. Since moody colors are distant from their pure, saturated bases, they are said to have a low Chroma.

3. Custom Graphic Art and Illustration

Whether they are whimsical, practical, or purely artistic, the demand for custom graphic art and illustrations will continue to grow in 2018. Custom imagery has always played a significant role in print media. When it comes to digital media, however, custom graphic art and illustration has taken a backseat to cheaper stock imagery alternatives for much of the last decade.

The accessibility of drawing, painting, calligraphy, artistic typography, photography and illustration underutilized on the modern web. This includes recent renditions of classic graphic design techniques like duotones and double-exposures for example, both of which are becoming trends of their own.

Custom artwork and illustration is used to create a visual language which can enhance and add personality to a brand. In 2018, graphic designers can feel free to get creative as more artwork in a broader range of styles will be seen.

4. Glitch

This is the most prevalent trend that is showing up these days. Glitch is imagery that looks like its being transformed or broken up by some digital interference. This design trend can elicit a fascination with distress, deconstruction and the beauty of imperfection.

5. Integration

Integration is when you integrate fonts or letter forms or numbers very closely with photography. It is like the text, and the photograph is living in the same physical space. There is always a visually exciting way they are interwoven with each other. Integration is one of the most popular trends that can be used vastly in visual and creative ways.

6. Animated Fonts

In digital design, there is going to be inventions that will see the color font trend go one step further with animated versions of color fonts. These will bring an extra dimension of interaction and fun to branding, social media content and apps in 2018.

7. Unique Layouts and Splitting Content

2018 is all about having designs that stand out, and the design layout is no different. Symmetry on the canvas has always been a standard in the trade, but companies have started to experiment away from this. Designers are beginning to create asymmetric designs that creatively use neutral space.

Asymmetric designs have become more pleasing and generic to the eye, and asymmetric designs do a great job of capturing attention because it’s so different from what we usually see. Another rugged layout design that we have seen and will continue to see in 2018 is splitting content. It is a design that is divided into sections where information is dispersed across each part. A typical split content layout is having half the page as an image, while the other half of the page is text.

The trends mentioned above for 2018 are not as easy as it sounds. The catch is to start with the basics and begin to implement authentic visuals first. The experimentation of shapes, font combinations and a combination of elements mentioned above into a single graphic is going to be called as a celebratory design of 2018. We at CreativeClick, a graphic design company in India, always make our designs stand out!
